Scaffolder Death Highlights Frequency Of Work Accidents:
Despite strict safety laws in the UK tragic work accidents continue to occur. Construction sites in particular continue to see a number of work accidents each year and this was illustrated by the tragic case of a scaffolder who was killed in 2008 after falling 62 feet (19m) from a scaffold a the building site in Swansea.
Russell Samuels from South Wales suffered severe injuries including a broken skull as a result of the fall and unfortunately died in hospital two days later. A carpenter on the ground directly below was fortunate to escape injury,
Recently the main building contractors Carillion were fined heavily after a successful prosecution by the Health & Safety Executive. The sub contractor Febrey – which has since gone into liquidation – also admitted breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act and was fined with one of the directors also facing a fine later on,
